I managed to watch a special screening of the New Star Trek film last night. I will say that thank god I watched it for free.
I will respect everyone who wants to see this film (and judge for yourself) and not spoil anything (YET). I will say I went into this with as much of an open mind as possible and I came away from it borderline between mildly to extremely disappointed/disgusted.
I have new found Hatred for J.J. Abrams, Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci who obviously didn't do enough homework on Star Trek. It's not to say that the film is not a good action movie. It's quite decent, but the source material is so badly disrespected. As I said NOT ENOUGH HOMEWORK went into this. It was watching a real bad Fan Fiction Script come to life. I'm just sorry that Leonard Nimoy endorsed this.
My reaction as the film ended, Those three Living Turds (Abrams, Kurtzman and Orci) just just spoon fed me Crunchy Bullshit and called it Rocky Road Ice cream. Sure I got some sweets from it, but I'm still eating Shit!
Anyways, as I said, see it and judge for yourself.
Peace!

As far as I was concerned, This movie did not have a Heart and Soul! (A term I always apply to Spider-Man 2) It was just 2 Hours of Mind-Numbing Disrespect!
As I said, You should judge for yourself. You may like it. I'm sorry that you probably will based on some of the Eye-rolling reviews I've read from the last couple of weeks and from the DRONES over at TrekMovie.com

Heart is important in a Trek film.My favorite Star Trek movie(The Wrath of Khan) is a masterpiece of heart.
What did the movie get wrong?
And which past Star Trek movie would you compare it to?

I'll be honest it s decent action/sci-fi film. But the best I can describe this film as it was a badly written fan-fic that Hollywood bought up and took major liberties with. "Wrath of Khan" was 100 time better than this GARBAGE.

What exactly do you mean by "didn't do enough homework?" What did they mess up? I ask, because it's been established from what I've seen that this is an alternate universe, thus some details in the past and events that occur in this movie could happen and the original stuff stays safe, because it's in a seperate time-line.
Plus, with the way a lot of the hardcore fanboys of franchises are, there were going to be fans who would despise it no matter what. Zombie Gene Rottenbury(sp) could have written it and legions of Trekkies would have called for his undead head for deviating too far from the source.
So far, the only flaw I can see in the movie is Abrams' over-use of the lens flare effect, which he even admited he went a lil' too far with it and it's no where near enough for me to hate the film.
I'll grant the non-hardcore fans of ST or TOS (I'm more of a casual fan for TNG and the movie series), but the Prequels? That's just low, dude.

I can damn near say the same things you said about ST over SM2 and the whole trilogy in general, but I'll leave it to you if you want me to go into details.
